| So, I really love how "they" brought over David Beckham to bring soccer to the States. And all they managed to do was give People magazine more photos of Victoria and her couture outfits. Like soccer will be big here, ever. Remember, we're the country who doesn't use the metric system, and has a greater football sport than futbol.
but more on my life... i am studying abroad next fall...in the lovely Mediterranean! Athens for 6 weeks, a week off to travel where ever, and 6 weeks in Rome.
school is almost over, which is weird for me. I want to be done with school, but I don't want to go home and work at Time Comm. Yuck! I'm also looking for another job; I've applied at UPS, and I just need to set up an interview now.
Yesterday was Pinestock. Unfortunately, it was held indoors because it decided to snow in April. It was still a good time though. I went with Amy, Becca and Amy's friend (i forget her name) and later we met up with Emily and Sarah for a while. We saw Ludo (never heard them before---oh my gosh! Sa-weet!) and the major singer: Jack's Mannequin! I hadn't heard any of his songs really, Sus downloaded some for me for Pinestock, but I never got around to listening to them, but Adam/Andrew/Whatever his name is, is soooo talented! Of course, after that, I had to listen to the songs on my itunes...very good, but better live. Deep Blue is wonderful! So is MFEO and La La Lie.
Marissa is transferring next year to the U, which just devastates me. I know I'll be fine and next year is going to be kick-ass (Becca, Mieke, Amy and I have a great apartment for the spring), and she's studying abroad in the spring, so we wouldn't see each other anyways...but still. She's my best friend here in St. Joe. I constantly kidd her, "why you want to leave me?" like Gus does in My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding. | | |
| so i've been back at college for a week. haven't gotten too stressed out yet, which is very nice. i'm slowly...very very very slowly getting back into my lovely college sleep patterns. and i'm wondering, how does one get their blog read on xanga or anything else? whatever, what not to wear is back on. | | |
| so, yeah, today i had photography and then history then i wrote my sophomore topics paper, ate, worked, went to sophomore topics got home at around 10pm and have been doing homework non-stop, but part of it was for art club, so it was fun homework! i made trading cards to show as examples for tomorrow's meeting. anyone wanna trade? :) and this last weekend i went home and then went up to fargo for sarah and jon's wedding which the ceremony was wierd, the pastor was just ODD, and the reception/food was supposed to start at 5:30 but the bridal party didn't get there until 6:15 or so, which was lovely. but the food was good, so was the dancing, and sam, being the wonderful cousin he is brings me a whole pitcher of beer for myself (which i did not finish), says he's gonna get me wasted, offers me his flask of jag--STRAIGHT (UGH), and when i said goodbye gives me his whiskey. yep, i love my family! LOL. but this is what his facebook status was this morning: Samuel M is back from his bro's wedding. Met some cool ppl, was still drunk at noon, and was almost kicked out of the reception. It was a total success! anyways, the dance was good and on sunday was joe's confirmation. i was his sponsor and after that me, him, ann, mom, dad and granma went to eat at the station house, which is our tradition. rachel and evan's family brought me up and down on friday and sunday which was nice, and the kid's weren't misbehaving at all, so it was nice to just talk. and chuck and alicia also offered to bring me home, which was really considerate. i love my family. | | |
| i think money has got to be the root of all evil. i mean, besides the devil and land and fighting over helen of troy. but money's up there on that list. i hate that i constantly worry about not having enough, how i'm going to have to juggle my bills, my lovely liberal arts ed that rose by $4000 this year and just...everything that goes along with it. and then, you know what the terrifying thing is? cash is practically non-existant anymore. it's all electronic. why are people more obsessed than ever before over numbers that you rarely see in your hands anymore? it's lame. you could be in debt and never have actually seen the money you spent. isn't that scary? how are people today supposed to learn to budget their money, not to spend more than they make, when they don't see an actual decrease of funds? they just see a plastic card and a signature line that they don't have to worry about until next month. ugh. and now, the government might be making a silver penny. good grief. i like the ones we have now, thanks. that will just be harder for little kids to learn their currency, and big whoop if the penny costs 1.4 cents to make, all the other coin currency is pennies as well, so it's not like the people are losing money if you average out the cost to make pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. people just annoy me. and i annoy myself too, at times. like when i worry 24/7 about this shit!! | | |
| Well, I should really be working on my accounting right now, but I really don't like doing homework for that class. Or that class, really, for that matter. Unfortunately, it's required. The classes I'm taking this semester are: accounting, the european experience (history), photography, color theory/design and my night class of sophomore topics which is required for art majors, and is a complete waste of time, even though it's supposed to train us for after graduation and how not to be a starving artist ie safety practices, resumes, portfolios, etc., etc. tonight i am super busy. i'm working a tie-dye tee thing for the health advocates big week, then i have to watch a movie for my history class on the french revolution and then i have an art club meeting and after that i'm meeting with melissa k. to work some more on accounting. this will honestly take up my entire evening, and i'm hoping i'll have enough time to eat between the tie-dying and catching the bus. on thursday i'm going to a photography gallery for art in north minneapolis. it could be the same one i went to last semester briefly, i'll see when i get there. that should be exciting, but again, limited homework time that evening. or food time. or friends time. thankfully, i don't have to worry about missing grey's anatomy yet. anything else? move in day was august 26, classes started the 29, not much to say there. my roommate's name is liz and she's from trinidad, but she goes to new york state in the summer to be with her mom. she can be hard to understand sometimes with her accent, but i can understand her perfectly when she talks "yankee." but she just does that for laughs, because apparently you're a huge sell-out and terrible if you're from trinidad and come to the u.s. and talk "yankee." that's sort-of understandable, but after working at time c. this summer, it just reinforced how much americans hate accents. it can be super hard to communicate. that's it for now. | | |
